Almost all types of bow are welcome at East Durham Archers, including bows such as:
RECURVE are the most commonly-used type of bow; most novices are trained using these and most continue to develop their skills with recurve bows. Some even reach the dizzy height of Olympic or World Champions. The bow generally has a metal or wooden centre-section, known as the riser, with flat limbs which when not stringed bend the opposite way to the angle of use. The prices will range from around £50 to over £1000.
BAREBOW RECURVE is simply a recurve bow with no bowsight, pressure-button or stabilizers of any kind. Whilst far less popular than longbow, there are more folk willing to give this form of archery a try.
COMPOUND bows have wheels and pulleys which lessen the force needed to hold the bow at full-draw.
LONGBOW is one of the most traditional forms of archery. This is the type of bow everyone has seen in many a medieval film or drama. No sights, no technical aids, no longrod stabilisers, Just good old fashioned wood and skill here.
CROSSBOWS ARE NOT ALLOWED
